ASSURES PEACEFUL CATTLE HERDERS IN THE STATE OF THEIR SAFETY, WHILE WARNING THAT CRIMINAL CATTLE RUSTLERS AND TERRORISTS SHALL BE DECISIVELY DEALT WITH.
Following the controversies generated by the proposed establishment of cattle colonies by the Minister of Agriculture, Chief Audu Ogbeh and attempts by purveyors of falsehood, especially in the social media, the Commissioner for Information in Imo State, Professor Nnamdi Obiareri has come out to clarify on the Imo State government’s position on the matter.
According to the learned legal scholar and respected political strategist, the government of Imo State under His Excellency, Owelle Rochas Okorocha respects and will continue to accommodate Nigerians from all parts of the world and guarantee them a peaceful and conducive environment for them to carry out their legitimate businesses without any form of harassment. According to the statement; “Out of abundant caution, the RESCUE MISSION GOVERNMENT of Imo State restates that there is no law, policy, decision, plan, request or intention to cede, allocate or designate any part of Imo State as a cattle colony.”
The government also went on to condemn the criminal and terrorist activities of some killer herdsmen who have continued to terrorize some communities in some parts of Nigeria, warning them never to think of venturing into Imo State as they will not be fortunate to live to recount the tragedy that will befall them.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the dastardly act of extra-judicial killng or taking the lives and or wanton destruction of the properties of other citizens by blood thirsty herdsmen or ethinic militias or terrorists anywhere in the country stand condemned.
Criminality can neither be legalised nor excused by diversionary labelling or dangerous over generalisations as a crime remains a crime no matter by whom committed.
This is to reassure Ndi Imo that the RESCUE MISSION GOVERNMENT is willing, ever ready and prepared to defend the lives and properties of Imolites and will not hesitate to deal decisively with criminal offenders accordingly to the full weight of the law.” the statement further read.
It will be recalled that Imo State under Owelle Rochas Okorocha has remained one of the most peaceful, hospitable and safest States in the Federation. This is as a result of the State Government’s conscious policies and programs in promoting peaceful coexistence among citizens and residents in every part of the State. Governor Okorocha has remained consistent, both as a private citizen and public office holder, in his determination to foster love, understanding and peace among all tribes and religions in the country and across Africa.
